Session 12 – Navigating the Healthcare Innovation Cycle

Much effort and funding has gone into defining and improving the process of creating scientific and medical knowledge which will improve healthcare. However, comparatively little has been published on the equally important topic of turning that knowledge into products, services, and procedures that actually improve health outcomes: i.e. “Healthcare Innovation”. Based on a review of the available literature, along with the study of more than 1000 projects, the speakers provide an overview of a framework, dubbed the “Healthcare Innovation Cycle”, which codifies the process of innovation in healthcare and, therefore, helps teams successfully navigate the journey while also enabling the process to be studied, improved, and taught.
